Emerson/Control Techniques Servo Motors and Drives

Emerson Control Techniques’ goal is to make your process smarter and more productive¬† whether you need a single drive or a complete system.

All drives are easy to program and simple to setup. Drive start-up is quick and easy with our Windows¬† based drive configuration tools. From our general purpose drives to the high performance Unidrive AC and Mentor II DC drive, you’ll find unmatched flexibility and control.

All Emerson Control Techniques servo drives have Modbus RTU as standard, and the capability to add one or more of the following field bus options: EtherNet/IP, Ethernet/TCP, DeviceNet, Profibus, CAN, CAN Open, Sercos, CTNet , CTSync

The scalable PLC functionality combined with an extensive range of field bus options and expandable I/O options eliminate the need to have an external PLC in most cases resulting in cost and space savings. The following table summarizes the key features of the Emerson Control Techniques range of servo drives.

Epsilon Drive

Epsilon EP , the latest offering of servo amplifiers from ECT, is an evolution of the popular Epsilon series amplifiers. Compact and priced very competitive, this amplifier is offered in 3 flavors: Base drive, Indexer (with optional Devicenet) and Fully programmable version. Ethernet is a standard feature (Ethernet IP and Modbus TCP protocols).

EN Drive

En Series is a standalone, medium power servo drive that can either be used as a base drive or enhanced as an indexer or programmable version by adding an FM Module.

MDS Drive

MDS (Modular Drive System) is a powerful, cost effective solution for multiple axes applications. MDS employs a unique backplane architecture that accommodates a common power module and up to eight drive modules. Once again, these base amplifiers can be further enhanced as an indexer or programmable drive using FM Modules.

UniDrive SP

Unidrive SP fills in the gap for servo applications above 750 in-lb continuous torque. Also its capability to work with servo as well as ac motors, 14 different types of encoders (including SSI, absolute, Heidenhain and Endat) and peer-to-peer communication capabilities (with CTNet and CTSync) makes it the choice for more complex applications.

FM & MC Series Servo Motors

FM Servo Motors
The FM motor series is a medium inertia motor suitable for larger load applications. The FM motor line uses a 4096 line encoder for high precision and is designed with low cogging torque to provide smooth operation and excellent velocity regulation. FM motors are available in Metric frames of 75 mm, 95 mm, 115 mm, 142 mm and 190 mm, with or without brakes. The design has excellent thermal characteristics providing a compact design. The torque range available is 10.6 lb-in (1.2 Nm) to 616 lb-in (70 Nm). All models are rated IP 65.

MC Servo Motors
The MG Motor is low inertia motor that is great for dynamic applications with torque requirements between 5 lb-in (0.57 Nm) and 163 lb-in (18.4 Nm). MG motors use Neodymium magnets to achieve a high torque to inertia ratio giving them a size advantage when compared to competitors' motors. MG motors are available in English (NEMA 23, 34, or 56) and Metric (IEC-72-1) flanges with or without brakes. The standard encoder resolution is 2048 lines per rev. MG motors come standard with MS style connectors. All models are rated IP65. For applications that require custom motors, the MG line is the choice.

MH & NT Series Servo Motors

MH Servo Motors
The MH Motor is a low inertia motor that is ideally suited to the MDS operating with 460VAC Input. Applications with torque requirements between 16 lb-in (1.8 Nm) and 748 lb-in (84.5 Nm) can be solved. MH motors use Neodymium magnets to achieve a high torque to inertia ratio giving them a size advantage when compared to competitors' motors. MH motors are available in English and Metric flanges, with or without brakes. The standard encoder resolution is 2048 lines per rev. All models are rated IP 65. For applications that require larger custom motors, the MH line is the choice.

NT Servo Motors
The NT Motor is an economical, high performance motor manufactured with patented technology to maximize torque and minimize size. The NT motor uses powerful Neodymium magnets and is manufactured with a segmented core to maximize stator efficiency and further reduce size. The NT motor has a very low inertia for applications that demand high accel and cycle rates. When used with the "Motion Made Easy" Drives the NT line produces from 7 lb-in (0.79 Nm) to 55 lb-in (6.3 Nm) of continuous torque. NT motors are available in English (NEMA 23 or 34) or Metric (IEC- 72-1) flanges, with or without brakes. The standard encoder resolution is 2048 lines per rev. NT motors can be ordered with MS style connectors, 1 meter Flying Leads or 1 meter
Flying Leads with MS connectors. All models are rated IP 65.
